Dating back to the 1964 General Plan for Montgomery County, the
Corridor Cities Transitway (CCT) is the Red-Line Extension that
links the Shady Grove Metro Station to Clarksburg, with an
ultimate extension to Frederick. It is part of the nearly
completed I-270/US15 Corridor Study that includes the widening
of I-270.
The Upcounty Community must join together to ask
our State Elected Officials to support the CCT. The important
thing to remember about the CCT is that it is needed now, it is
ready to go, and it should be light rail.
CCT is Ready to Go
Eighty percent of the right-of-way for the CCT has been set
aside for its future construction and is presently available
at no additional cost to the public. The CCT is “Good to
Go.”
-
Land has also been set aside for stations,
parking lots and garages, all of which will promote greater
economic benefit in the form of location incentives for
much-needed and attractive transit-oriented development.
-
The CCT alignment is congruent with emerging
land use patterns that will ensure ridership in transit
oriented developments that are promoting their proximity to
the line.
-
There are NO areas within the corridor where
existing or planned development would preclude the
construction and operation of the Transitway.
-
There is no opposition to the CCT.
-
We must move ahead as spring 2007
approaches, marking the completion time for the Draft
Environmental Assessment study.
-
It is important to note that this project
was included in the recent Federal Transportation
Authorization Bill, making it eligible for Federal Funding.
