CALL TO ACTION Contact Transportation Secretary John Porcari and ask him to include CCT Construction and Right of Way funds in the FY2009 FY2014 CTP. The CCT has the benefit of having an agreed upon alignment and a considerable amount of the right of way in public hands. The focus now should be to secure the remaining right of way for Phase I of the project and to ensure that construction funds are available in 2012. Transportation Secretary John Porcari Maryland Department of Transportation 7201 Corporate Center Hanover MD 21076 410-865-1000 CCT MTA Project Briefing, September 24, 2008 The State Legislators, City Mayors and the Community received a briefing on the CCT by MTA on September 24th. Current CCT Timeline · October 2008 Alternatives Analysis Complete · April 2009 Locally Preferred Alternative Complete · July 2009 Preliminary Engineering / New Starts Submission · May 2010 Final Environmental Impact Statement Complete · June 2011 Initiate Final Design · June 2012 Construction can begin Assuming funding is in place. The critical issue here is that the funding is NOT in place. There are no Construction dollars or Right of Way dollars proposed through 2014. That means that the earliest the project could begin construction is 2015, unless Governor OMalley and the Maryland General Assembly dedicate more funding to Transportation to speed up the CCT and other urgently needed transportation priorities throughout the State. As the CCT Coalition has said the CCT is Good to Go meaning this project has an agreed upon alignment, there is no opposition, it will get cars off I-270 and provide the infrastructure for transit oriented development. The CCT must be built as soon as possible. To do so, right of way funds and construction funds must be included in the budget.
